Rag Dolls

I made the first rag doll for my daughter in 2010. I couldn’t find a doll that appealed in the shops and so decided to make a doll especially for her. My aim was to create a traditional fabric doll but with a contemporary twist. For the body of the doll I used a natural cotton/linen mix fabric with unbleached cotton yarn for the hair. I recycled a Laura Ashley chambray dress to make a new dress for the doll and decorated it with floral ribbon trim from an old cardigan. Her bloomers were made from a coordinating worn out favourite print blouse.
Friends who saw Emily’s doll then asked me to make one for their daughters or to be given as gifts. I have made these dolls using a variety of fabrics and hair colours. Some were personalised with a child’s name and others with birthday or christening dates.
The dolls that I make are all sewn with loving care and attention to detail. They will become a friend that can be safely cuddled and will survive being washed if needed. They are stuffed with polyester hollow fibre that
complies with British toy standards and have a self certified CE mark.
